Who can use the Concordia Library Technology Center?
Currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff at Concordia University are able to use the Concordia Library. Special borrowing privileges can be obtained for alumni, community residents living in the Hamline-Concordia-Lexington-Selby block, Lutheran pastors, and other friends of the library. Community residents will be charged a yearly $20 fee for borrowing privileges. Guest patrons can check out up to 5 Concordia Library books at a time. All others who would like to borrow materials from the Concordia Library must contact their local library and ask for help in submitting an InterLibrary Loan Request for the material.Faculty who will be off campus for a semester or academic year must return all library materials before leaving Concordia. The Public Services Librarian will consider special requests for exceptions.
How do I get a library ID?
Before you check out or request library materials for the first time, eligible patrons must obtain a Concordia ID card and register with the library. Students and faculty may obtain an ID card at the Card Services office located in Luther 116. All other patrons–including continuing education students–should visit the library circulation desk. Your library barcode is at the bottom of the ID card. You must then verify your information (address, phone #, email) with the library circulation staff to activate your library privileges.
All borrowed material must be returned to the circulation desk so that it can be checked in properly. There is a return slot located inside the library next to the circulation desk; an outdoor book return is located outside the north side of the library, near the Pearson Theater. Please use this outside drop-off location only when the library is closed.
Students within the Twin Cities Metro area (including residents of Ramsey, Hennepin, Anoka, Dakota, Washington, and Scott counties) must come to the library to receive and return their materials.
For students residing outside of the Twin Cities Metro area, materials will be mailed to your home; it is then your personal responsibility to return the materials to the Concordia library through the U.S. postal service.

What can I check out?
Library privileges entitle you to check out books in the circulating collection, theses, curriculum materials, reserves, records, CDs, and videos. These materials have different loan periods and some materials may only be used in the library.
There is a 5 book limit for all courtesy borrowing patrons (generally patrons who are not students, faculty, or staff at Concordia or other CLIC schools). There is a 15 book limit for alumni and professors emeriti.
Reference books and periodicals are not available for checkout. Copy machines are available to photocopy non-circulating materials.
Currently enrolled students and faculty/staff at Concordia University may use CLICnet’s MyAccount feature to request books from other CLIC schools. CLIC is a consortium of 8 private schools in the metro area that share a library catalog. Requests for books may be made directly in the CLICnet catalog, and books will be sent to Concordia’s library. It is free to request CLIC books; copies of journal articles are $0.10/page.
How long is the loan period for library materials?
Most books circulate to students for a 6-week time period and to faculty/staff until the end of the semester. Books may be renewed only twice; each renewal loan period is 4 weeks. Faculty and staff may borrow a book for the semester and renew it once.
Material may be renewed as long as no one else has requested it. The library reserves the right to recall a book that has been renewed if someone requests it or if it is needed for reserve.
Periodicals, reference books, and microfilm materials do not circulate.
Reserve materials may be checked out for a 2-hour period but must remain within the library.
Videocassettes may be checked out for a 7-day period.
Curriculum materials may be checked out for a 7-day period.
Children’s books may be checked out for a 7-day period.
CDs and records may be checked out for a 7-day period.
Headphones may be checked out only for use within the library for a 2-hour period.
Are there library fees?
Concordia Library’s collection may be used freely within the library. Materials may be checked out to qualified patrons. Books are free to use and request. Journal articles cost $0.10 per page for photocopy costs.
What if my books are overdue?
You will receive a courtesy notice of overdue materials. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and final notice sent to patrons before a billing notice is sent. When a 6 week item is more than four weeks overdue or a 7 day item is 7 days overdue, it is designated “lost.” Once a billing notice is sent, your checked out materials are considered lost and you will be responsible for their replacement cost. Fines will be put on your university student account and library privileges will be terminated until the account is reconciled. Please note that it is the responsibility of patrons to return their items before they are due; notices are provided as a courtesy to patrons.
How much are overdue fines?
Books are $0.05/item/day
Curriculum items are $0.25/item/day
CD’s/Music Equipment/Records/Filmstrips/Software are $0.25/item/day
Reserve items are $0.25/item/hour
Children’s books are $0.25/item/day
Videos are $0.25/item/hour
Interlibrary loan items are $0.25/item/day
Billed items are $65.00 or the replacement cost for videos
*Note that faculty will not be charged overdue fines, but they WILL be charged for lost and damaged items (see below).
What if I lose or damage material?
You are responsible for any materials borrowed from the Concordia Library and CLICnet. You will be billed a replacement cost, usually $65.00 per item. Damaged items will be billed individually based on the amount of damage.
