Concordia's Library History
Buenger Memorial Library, named after Concordia's first president, Theodore Buenger, was constructed in 1951 and expanded in 1984. Our current facility, the Library Technology Center, was completed in 2003.
The library's program is designed to offer students and faculty a wide variety of resources via access to both physical and electronic collections of materials. Bound volumes in its collections exceed 120,000 and periodical subscriptions in paper format number about 500. Thousands of periodical titles are available electronically in full text. Holdings within CLIC, the local consortium of which Concordia is a part, exceed 1.5 million volumes. Among Concordia's specialized resources are the holdings of the German Genealogical Society.
The library is an integrated part of the University's Information Technology unit and offers staff assistance for both traditional resources and electronic services. The library's catalog, CLICnet, is maintained jointly with other academic institutions in the Twin Cities. Resource sharing is actively facilitated through CLIC, MINITEX, and OCLC.
