Concordia Honored the 2009 Aeterna Moliri Award Recipients

Concordia honored The Rev. Dr. Hilbert (George) and Mrs. Joan Riemer, the recipients of the 2009 Aeterna Moliri Award as part of Chapel services on Friday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m., in Buetow Music Center Auditorium. The Aeterna Moliri (Building for Eternity) Award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions in building the Church.  George and Joan Riemer served as missionaries with the Lutheran Church in Korea (LCK) from 1961-2004. They were involved with evangelistic outreach and pastoral ministry at various mission starts and congregations. Their outreach efforts included radio talks, television appearances, Christian Correspondence Course programs and the distribution of literature. George was president and theology professor at Luther University and Seminary for many years. He was instrumental in bringing the Korea Bethel Series Bible student program into the entire Christian Church throughout Korea. He served in numerous leadership positions with the LCK. George also spent 33 years as a U.S. Army Reserve chaplain.  Joan taught conversational English and English as a Second Language in various educational settings in Korea including Luther University and Seminary. The Riemers’ missionary work was carried out primarily in the Korean language in close partnership with Korean national colleagues. The Riemers retired in March 2004 and live in Oakdale, Minn. They return to Luther University and Seminary annually to teach for one semester. The Riemers have two grown children and five grandsons.
