Expert on Hmong Writing System to Lecture at CSP

The Center for Hmong Studies will host a lecture by Chia Khou Vang, a close disciple of Yang Shong Lue, who in 1959, invented the Phajhauj Hmoob – “mother of writing” or “source of writing.”  Vang’s lecture on this Hmong writing system and its usage throughout the world will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 6-8 p.m., in the Buenger Education Center.  The Center for Hmong Studies also will celebrate the ninth anniversary of the Hmong Archives at a special open house on Sunday, Feb. 10, from 2 – 6 p.m.  Considered one of the largest collections of Hmong artifacts in the nation, the event will include exhibits of the more than 100,000 items in the Hmong Archives, which include books, videos, cassettes, CDs, embroidery, artifacts  and more.  Questions about the event or the Hmong Archives may be directed to Marlin Heise at 651-224-8754.
