2) Hmong Conference Offers 100 Free Registrations for Campus
The Center for Hmong Studies will host the second biennial International Conference on Hmong Studies, April 10-12, 2008, on the Concordia campus. The conference is expected to attract more than 500 attendees and will feature presentations by Hmong scholars on a wide variety of topics on Hmong culture, history and scholarship. The conference is free to the first 100 Concordia students, staff and faculty who register; however, registration is required. Download a registration form and bring the completed document to the Center for Hmong Studies. Space is limited so those who have interest in attending the conference are encouraged to register early.
The Center for Hmong Studies will present its Eagle Award to Dr. Jacques Lemoine at the conference. The award is given to an individual Hmong scholar who has made significant contributions to the field of Hmong studies by their engagement in scholarly publications, teaching, and community engagement – applying their research knowledge for the betterment of the Hmong community and the field of Hmong studies. Lemoine has been a tireless researcher about the Hmong since 1950. He has published many scholarly articles relating to the Hmong family structure, cultural beliefs and Hmong society. Lemoine will personally accept his award and serve as the closing plenary speaker for the conference. Other plenary speakers will include Dr. Chia Youyee Vang of the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Professor Peidi Yang of the Guizhou Province's Association of Miao/Hmong Research in China.
