Please note: This option is only open to students in cohort programs.
Because of the unique delivery systems that cohort-based progams use, students in those programs have the option to submit their papers online to receive feedback from Writing Center tutors. (Please note: This option is not available for students in Concordia's traditional day courses or programs.)
To submit papers online, send an email to writingcenter@csp.edu, include your paper as an attachment (Microsoft Word works best), and provide the following information:
name
major or program of study (not cohort number)
professor
email address
an indication of whether or not you have used the Writing Center before
a brief description of the assignment
two or three issues/questions you would like the tutor to focus on.
(Please note that tutors cannot do comprehensive edits of papers. Instead, they will focus on two or three specific issues, such as organization, transitions, thesis statement, etc.)
Turnaround time for papers submitted online is approximately 48 hours according to the Writing Center's hours of operation (for example, the Writing Center is closed Saturdays and Sundays, so for papers submitted Friday morning, the 48 hour turnaround time lasts until Tuesday morning). Please be aware, however, that when a large number of papers (capstones especially) are submitted just before their due dates, responses are occasionally delayed.
Tutors will use the Track Changes function in Microsoft Word to place comments on your paper and then send the paper back to you. Please refer to the Resources for Writers link on this site and click on the handout titled "How to Use Track Changes in Word."
Long papers, including capstones and synthesis projects: Because the Writing Center is a teaching service and not an
editing service, ideal practice is for tutors to provide feedback on
3-8 pages at a time and give students the opportunity to improve their
skills by applying what they learn from those 3-8 pages to the rest of
their paper(s). However, we realize students sometimes need help with papers that are longer than 8 pages.
For longer papers, students may send the entire paper and designate which 15 pages (maximum) they would like tutors to read and respond to. If students do not wish to designate a specific 15 pages, tutors will start from the beginning of the paper and read the first 15 pages.
For capstones and synthesis projects, students may send up to 15
pages (maximum) of one chapter per email and may do this for up to
three chapters (total) of their project. If students want to send the entire chapter or project and designate which15 pages they would like tutors to focus on, they may do so. In cases where students do not designate which 15 pages they would like tutors to focus on, tutors will start from the beginning of the chapter or project and read the first 15 pages.
Providing feedback beyond this 15-page limit would mean that tutors are serving as editors rather than as tutors or teachers. If students wish to have someone read and
provide feedback for their entire capstone or synthesis project, they may
hire a professional editor who is qualified to do such work.
