General F-1 Student Work Rules: International students with F-1 status may be employed under the following circumstances only:
- Employment must be performed at Concordia University, St. Paul
- Employment may not exceed 20 hours/week during the semester
- Employment may exceed 20 hours/week during semester breaks
A student who is employed as a teaching assistant is considered, by virtue of that position and activity, to be "at" the 20 hours/week employment limit. No additional employment is legally possible.
No special permission or letter is necessary from ISO to be employed in the ways just described. A Concordia University, St. Paul employer may ask to see your I-20, however.
Employment in any other circumstance including, but not limited to, employment outside Concordia University, St. Paul, must be approved in advance by ISO and, in most cases, by U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS).
