Presidential Search Committee Update
39 names were submitted for nomination ~ 25 declined ~ 14 accepted
After receiving many nominations for individuals to serve as Concordia’s ninth president, 14 nominees have consented to their nomination. Those individuals include:

October 31 – nomination completed
November 15 – Deadline for submission of nominee data
Congregations and campus informed of list of nominees
Correspondence on nominees received until December 31
November – December – committee screening of candidates
January 3-7 – Board of Regents selects short list of candidate to submit to CUS panel for prior approval
January 8 - ?? – CUS panel give prior approval of list
February 10 Board of Regents selects final slate for campus interviews
March – campus interviews of approved short list nominees
April 15 – Board of Regents elects from final slate
Call Center Update
Service Trips for 2010-11
-
Florida (Tampa area)—environmental work in Terrea State Park, working with a biologist to track animal use of the park and also trail maintenance and building projects
-
Chicago—homelessness and urban focus (a variety of service in many different areas, likely youth, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, etc.) working with Center for Student Missions
-
Nicaragua—working predominately with youth in an orphanage and partnering with a NewSong Mission to host youth programs in a small rural village in the mountains
-
Haiti--playing with kids in an orphanage, putting on day camps for youth, helping teach English in school, etc. The group is working with Mission of Hope, Haiti.
Study Abroad
-
We have two new semester-long programs which are unique to CSP: Costa Rica and China.
-
Costa Rica is a partnership with the Concordia System and begins this Spring of 2011;
-
CSP can send up to three students
-
A professor from Concordia Texas will be teaching history and communication courses on behalf of the CISC system
-
We have accepted two students to travel from CSP
-
China is a partnership with the MN Private College Consortium and begins in Fall of 2011
-
United International College (UIC) is a small University of 5,000 students
-
It is a reciprocal program where they can send us Chinese students to study here and we can send our students to study there
-
In addition we already have a partnership set up with a school in Korea which is also reciprocal and we expect to receive 2 Korean students who will study here Fall 2011
Leadership Program

The Ignite Leadership Development program was developed January of 2008 and has recently expanded from one program to a 3-tiered model.
-
3-tiered model with the number of students involved:

12 Ignite students (advanced level students)
-
56 Equip students (primary level and most involved level)
-
25 Emerge students (1st year students and primarily composed of scholarship recipients)

Annual leadership retreat just happened over fall break at Heartwood Retreat Center in Trego, WI
-
We filled the retreat with 32 students in 2010
-
Had 6 faculty/staff involved in offering trainings on the following topics:

Social media effects on communication

Relationship-based leadership

Goal-setting

Conflict management
-
Global leadership

Diversity
2010 Academic Year

It is estimated that 12-15 courses are offered each semester with a service-learning component

The Campus has 2 annual service days/event;
-
During Welcome Week we offer volunteer opportunities for all incoming 1st year students for a half day service experience (in 2010 we had approximately 180 students participate)

MLK Jr Service Day; the day after MLK Day we offer another half day of service at various Twin Cities location that is open to the entire faculty, staff and students
-
2011 date: Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 12:30 pm-5 pm

Staff interested in helping/participating in this year’s MLK Service Day event should contact Jarred Sampson or Sara Kellogg, co-chairs of the University’s Service Task force.
