FYS Research Portal
Welcome, Concordia FYS students! We've created this FYS research portal for you. Hopefully its format will provide you with a more manageable entry point into our library resources (including links chosen with FYS students specifically in mind) as you begin your studies. If you'd like to view the library's full set of webpages, you can start at the library home page.
For additional assistance stop by the reference desk, send us an email, or give us a call.

- BearHunt: search across multiple databases at the same time
- Academic Search Premier (EBSCOhost): one of our many databases for journal articles
- Google Scholar: for finding both free scholarly information on the web and information held by Concordia's databases
To make sure Google Scholar recognizes you as a Concordia user, follow the instructions here:
- Course Reserves
- CSP Library Toolbar: This allows you to search our library from your browser's toolbar. You don't have to go straight into the Virtual Library.
- Research 101: An interactive, online tutorial covering research basics.
- Ask a Reference Librarian: Concordia's reference librarians are friendly and willing to help you become more comfortable with scholarly research. Send them an email!
- Assignment Calculator (University of Minnesota): Type in the due date of your next research assignment to view a suggested breakdown of tasks and deadlines.
- Open Mind 2.0 Tutorials: Learn how to use Open Mind 2.0 (a program already loaded onto your laptop) for brainstorming, organizing your thoughts, and managing projects
- Library Tutorials: A mix of web pages, PDF documents, and Flash tutorials. If you do not already have the free Adobe Flash Player installed on your computer, you can access this free program here.
- Research Tips A list of resources about the following research-related topics: the research process, primary vs. secondary literature, the dewey decimal system, popular magazines vs. trade magazines vs. scholarly journals, searching the internet, and evaluating information.
- Annotated Bibliography Guides: An annotated bibliography is a requirement for every FYS student. Use these links to learn how to make one.

- Citation guides (Long Island University): Make sure you are citing your resources properly.
- eFolio Create an electronic portfolio that showcases your achievements, education, and work history.
- Zotero: A free Firefox extension that helps you collect, manage and cite your research sources. You can maintain research collections for each project you're working on. It also integrates with Word.
