Academic Development Program
The Academic Development Program (ADP) is designed to optimize the chances for success for 20 - 30 students who do not meet the regular admission criteria for the university, and have been determined by the Admission Committee to have the potential for success at the college level. Close monitoring for the first year of enrollment and intrusive advising acts as an academic and personal safety net leading to successful college completion at Concordia.
The Process:
- 20 - 30 first year students are assigned to this program based on the Admissions Committee decision.
- Students receive an acceptance letter informing them that they have been assigned to the program.
- A follow-up letter is sent during the summer explaining the need to meet one-on-one with the Coordinator for Learning Assistance in the summer, prior to the New Student Orientation, if at all possible
- During the initial meeting, the Coordinator gathers:
- general background information is gathered
- general education requirements are taught
- the registration process is taught
- students are helped to make informed decisions about their course schedules
- Each student is assessed individually and enrolled in appropriate courses.
- Follow-up services for students not maintaining contact with learning assistance include emails, phone contacts, discussion with professors
- Mid semester academic performance appraisals are sent out to each professor.
If you want to make the most of your academic experience? Got no time for self-improvement? Consider incorporating skill-building opportunities of the Student Support Classes!
