Summary: Policy and Procedure

Concordia utilizes a distributed hiring model. This model allows for managers to recruit and hire the best possible staff.

As the decision to hire individuals onto Concordia's staff has far reaching consequences, a system of checks and balances has been devised to guide representatives of the University in making the right decision.

A summary of the basic hiring/recruiting process:

  1. Review the position description/duties/funding; related form - Job Description TemplateMS Word Document 
  2. Obtain authorization for the position to be recruited & filled; related form - Position Request & Recruiting FormMS Word Document
  3. Recruit (HR can create/place advertisements and coordinate collection of applicant information)

  5. Make a primary and backup selection; contact HR with selections
  6. HR verifies credentials/background check (this step can take up to a week, please plan for this time)

  8. Orient the new employee/ have the employee complete New Employee paperwork in Human Resources

Setting up new employee resources

Concordia ID
Also know as an "L" number or Banner ID.  Concordia IDs are created for new employees when HR receives the Staff Payroll Authorization or the Faculty Contract Request.  This information is communicated via email to the supervisor and members of the campus community.  A Concordia ID must be created before any other campus resources can be granted for a new employee.
Bear Path Access
Bear Path Access is set up automatically when the campus is notified about the employee.
Computers (network access, e-mail, WebCT, Banner, laptops)
          Desktop computer access, issuing of a laptop, email, and setting up Banner client permissions is coordinated with the  Help Desk and the IT Department. 
Comet Card (ID Card)
Comet Cards are created at Card Services, located at 1371 Marshall Avenue; cardservices@csp.edu; 651-641-8788.
Keys
Keys can be requested by completing the form at http://concordia.csp.edu/security/forms/key_request_forms.html
Library Materials
Your Comet Card also acts as a library card.
