Technology Committee Appeals Process
The following document lists and determines all processes to appeal a technology fee.
Technology fees include but are not limited to: damage to the university leased laptop;
damage to university leased equipment; late fees assessed due to a late return of laptop;
fees assessed due to loss or theft of the university leased laptop.
- The Information & Technology Department releases and notifies the Business Office of
all fines, fees, and charges. The Business Office sends a bill for the charges to the
student.
- The student must submit a written request for appeal if the charges are believed to be
disputable.
- The request for appeals must state the reasons fees or fines were assessed and why the
fine should be re-evaluated.
- The Technology Committee will meet to discuss requests for appeals. A representative
from the Information & Technology department will discuss the charges with the
Technology Committee. Upon hearing both sides of the case and viewing the damaged
laptop or equipment if damages are being appealed, the Technology Committee will
decide the verdict in one of three ways:
- to over rule the fine; in which case Concordia University will pay the fee billed to
the student where damage or loss to the laptop is present and waive the fee billed
to the student for a late return of the laptop; upon which the members of the
committee would sign a document stating that all parties are in agreement
therefore discharging the student from payment of said fine
- to agree to the fines/charges allocated to the appealing student, upon which the
members of the Technology Committee and the appealing student (if present at
appeal meeting) would sign a document stating that all parties are in agreement
therefore inferring his/her payment on said fine.
- to agree that the student is responsible for a portion of the fine/charge,
determined by the Technology Committee in which case Concordia University
would pay the remaining balance of the fee billed to the student for damage or
loss of laptop, upon which the members of the committee and the appealing
student (if present at the appeal meeting) would sign a document stating that all
parties are in agreement therefore inferring his/her payment on said fine.
Upon the Technology Committee's final say, no further appeals of said charges/fines will be
made. Upon submitting this form the student agrees to accept all decisions made by Technology
Committee.
