2 Seconds- Button Campaign

COM 309 Intercultural Communication Class Campus Project

Background of the 2 Seconds Button Campaign: It  takes about 2 seconds to jump to a conclusion when you first meet someone. CSP is rated #1 in diversity of all MN private colleges and universities.

COM 309 class is raising awareness and creating a more culturally sensitive climate on campus. The class will be wearing buttons for 2 weeks to spark conversations with people that they wouldn't normally interact with. They believe connecting 1-1 is the first step in creating a more culturally sensitive campus.

Psychological research suggests that we all have implicit biases and we tend to favor our own groups. For your interest, we challenge you to take a quiz here: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/.

Join in the conversation and the challenge to step out of your comfort zone! Spread the word!

Grazie! Danke! Merci! Gracias! Shokran! Mahad Sanid! Ua Tsaug! Thanks!

February 15, 2012- Day of Awareness: Are We There Yet?, 11:45 am, BEC

A panel of faculty and students will facilitate a conversation on race relations, as they respond to the results of the campus survey, button campaign, faculty panel discussion and themes from student interview groups.  The panel will help to facilitate a community plan of action that addresses the themes uncovered during the convocation.
