(Books on CD, large print, Braille or text-to-voice conversion)
Important things to remember about Alternative Text Services:
- Please request book accommodation services early. Most texts require 4-6 weeks to process. It is difficult to receive alternative text late in the semester due to this timeline.
- Book accommodations are not automatically arranged. We arrange book accommodations only after a request is received for each book.
Student’s Responsibilities:
1) Purchase a hard copy of the book from the CSP bookstore; you must buy this prior to books being scanned or converted for copyright reasons (this is a requirement of the publishers, not us!) Please keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
2) Complete the book accommodation form; either email or deliver to Disability Services. Book accommodation forms are available in our office or on our website. Also drop off a receipt of the text or bring your text to prove purchase of the text to Disability Services staff. Complete this form 4-6 weeks prior to beginning of classes.
3) Check out alternative books and/or loan equipment, such as CD players or tape recorders, from Disability Services, if necessary. Students may borrow certain equipment by signing an Equipment Loan Agreement.
4) Download any necessary software (i.e., Kurzweil, Readplease) to your computer. Disability Services can assist with this.
5) Return borrowed books or equipment to Disability Services at the required times. If you do not return items at the end of the semester, the cost of the equipment will be charged to your student account.
Disability Services’ Responsibilities:
1) Disability Services will search a variety of resources to find your book in an alternative format.
2) Disability Services will contact you once they receive the alternative book. If a book is not available in alternative forms Disability Services will scan your text and chapters of your text will be done a week at a time.
Cohort students only:
- Due to the accelerated nature of your classes, please get us your book list as soon as possible. We can also work with your advisor to get books prior to your class starting.
