Alternative Testing
Alternative Testing
Students approved for alternative testing services will have this indicated on the
Verification of Services and Accommodations (VISA) form.
Alternative testing recommendations are made by Disability Services staff on the basis of the student's individual needs, disability documentation, and other relevant factors. Students requiring alternative testing services should meet with Disability Services staff early in the semester to ensure testing arrangements are provided in a timely and effective manner.
Disability Services Responsibilities in Alternative Testing:
- Verify documentation to establish student eligibility for disability-related services.
- Recommend appropriate disability-related testing accommodations on the student's Verified Individualized Services and Accommodations form (VISA).
- Assist with converting exams to alternative formats.
- Train students and faculty on the utilization of alternative testing.
- Provide proctoring services and space for alternative testing needs.
Student Responsibilities in Alternative Testing:
1. Follow steps for obtaining services under “Accessing Services”. 2. Attend/complete alternative testing training. 3. Discuss your VISA form and alternative testing needs with instructors. 4. Complete a Testing Request Form for each exam that requires alternative testing.
Please remember: 3-5 days advance notice for testing is needed to arrange proctors/space. We may be unable to honor late requests due to time and space limitations.
5. A few days before the exam double check your exam time by contacting Disability Services and remind your instructor of your testing needs. 6. Show up for your test as scheduled and ready to complete the exam!
If there are questions or concerns about alternative testing, please arrange to meet with Disability Services.
