Interpreters and Captioning

Interpreting and Captioning Services

Any student requiring services for a disability involving auditory or speech impairments should follow the same procedure indicated under “Accessing Services”.   Requests for accommodations, services or academic adjustment are made on a case by case basis determined by functional impact of the disability (as evidenced by documentation and individual interview of the student).

Interpreting Services:

Qualified, certified interpreters are available for students who request them in a timely manner for University related activities, programs or classes. This includes prospective students who are visiting the University.
Guests who would like to access programs and services (such as plays, graduation or other events) may either contact the department sponsoring the event, Conference and Event Services or Disability Services.

Employees Requiring Interpreting:  Please contact Human Resources if you are a prospective or current employee who may require interpreting.

Interpreter Request Timelines:

Due to limitations of the availability of qualified interpreters, students who seek interpreting services for full or part time face to face classes should make requests as soon as they are aware they will be attending Concordia. This is to ensure that consistent, qualified interpreters can be arranged.

Students who are attending residency programs, visitors attending plays or other on campus programs should allow notice at least two weeks notice for interpreting services to be arranged.

Captioning Services:

Real time or message based captioning services may be made available to students or guests on a case by case basis.  Please contact Disability Services for more information on captioning.

Closed captioning for videos, DVD’s or other visual productions can also be coordinated.  Please contact Disability Services regarding closed captioning needs for audio-visual materials; typically we require 1-2 weeks to replace VHS or DVDs that are not closed-caption ready.
