Emergencies During Regular Office Hours
Call 911 or proceed directly to the emergency room of the closest local hospital if any of the following are of concern:
- A student has attempted suicide and needs immediate medical and psychiatric care
- A student has consumed alcohol or drugs to the point of difficulty with breathing, seizure, unconsciousness, or other clear signs of personal danger
- A student has a serious mental health crisis where emotions, thought processes, and/or behaviors are out of control and causing an acute inability to function
- A student makes a clear threat of harm or attempts to harm another person
If other student emergencies arise during regular office hours (Mondays-Fridays from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), or if you are unclear about which actions to take, please contact Counseling Services at 651-641-8252 and request a crisis appointment for a student or an emergency consultation regarding a student. If a counselor is not available at that time, you may leave a message on voicemail and the counselor will respond as soon as possible. If you cannot wait for a return call, contact one of the local crisis centers to consult about how to proceed (Crisis Connection at 612-379-6363 or Ramsey County Crisis Intervention at 651-266-7900) or seek on-campus assistance from Concordia Security at 651-641-8777, Health Services at 651-641-8235, or Campus Ministry at 651-641-8765.
Please be aware that Counseling Services is not open during evenings, weekends, holidays, summer breaks (from mid-June through mid-August), and at other times that the university may be closed.

Finding an Off-Campus Counselor
Occasionally, students will prefer to seek counseling services from an off-campus provider. Options for locating a counselor in your area include (but are not limited to) the following options:
- Medical insurance - If you have medical insurance that covers counseling, you can contact the insurance company for a list of providers in your area who are in your network. Typically, there will be a member services, behavioral health services, or mental health services telephone number on the back of your insurance wallet card to contact for this information.
- National Find a Psychologist online search, www.findapsychologist.org - The National Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology has a national databank of providers who can be searched for by location, name, expertise, language, and so forth. The register also provides information about provider credentials.
- Minnesota Psychological Association Online Public Psychologist Finder, http://mnpsych.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=1&subarticlenbr=63 - The Minnesota Psychological Association provides listings of licensed psychologists in Minnesota who are in good standing with the organization. Search for providers by area, name, services provided, specialization areas, and so forth.
- American Psychological Association Find a Psychologist search - http://locator.apahelpcenter.org/ or 1-800-964-2000. The American Psychological Association allows you to search online or by phone from a national databank of providers based exclusively on provider location. The organization does not verify credentials.
- Contact Counseling Services at 651-641-8252 for additional ideas for locating an off-campus provider.
