About Concordia Television Productions
Concordia Television Productions has a dual role at Concordia University, St. Paul.
As an educational arm of the Department of Communication, CTP provides students opportunities to gain basic and advanced knowledge of video and audio production. Much of the experience in CTP is collaborative. Students participate in remote shoots with crews ranging from 2 to 10, and learn to work cooperatively in producing athletic events, arts events (dance, music, drama) and other cultural and informational programming.
Students begin learning the basics of video production with consumer cameras before moving on to cameras that are more advanced. They also learn to use audio equipment and non-linear editing systems. Classes consist of instructions on equipment use, producing remote shoots, and screening of productions. Guest speakers discuss professional opportunities and share their expertise with students. Course requirements vary depending on the course as well as the number of credits for which a student registers.
As a service to the University and the community, CTP shoots many different events on campus and broadcasts them on the closed circuit campus cable channel as well as the St. Paul Neighborhood Network.
CTP is an important vehicle for connecting the University to the community by providing high quality informational and cultural programs. Students learn as they work on projects for a variety of University departments and entities and for non-profit organizations in the area. As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, CTP provides an important forum for addressing public issues of local, regional and national interest.
